 Historic Fort Gaines

Historic Fort Gaines is located at 51 Bienville Blvd at Dauphin Island and its history spans three different centuries.

This historic fort played a major role in the Battle of Mobile Bay, one of the most significant Civil War conflicts ever to exist.

Combined with Fort Morgan, they stood united at the mouth of Mobile Bay. It is open to the public seven days a week from 9am to 5pm.

Next on the list of attractions to see at The Alabama Coastal Connection is historic Fort Morgan, located at 110 Hwy 180 West, Gulf Shores Alabama.

 Here you and your family can very easily explore the historic fort and from the top of it you can easily see the view of most of the entire bay.

 You can relive the history of the battles that occurred there, with the most famous happening in the summer of 1864.

During this battle, the Confederate and Union armies fought bitterly for control of the bay entrance, and you can relieve that experience during the months of June and July.

During these two months a living history program is conducted with uniformed tour guides, who tell you the entire history.

The Audubon Bird Sanctuary

Next on the list is the Audubon Bird Sanctuary that is located at 213 Bienville Blvd, Dauphin Island, Alabama.

The gorgeous sanctuary has over 164 pristine acres made up of forests, dunes, marshes, as well as a lake, a swamp, and a beach.

Baldwin County Heritage Museum

The Jeff Friend Trail located there was recently upgraded to an improved boardwalk with ADA accessible accesses.

Other trails in the area include the Pine Beach Trail, the Gator Lake Trail, and the Centennial Trail.

This beautiful refuge also offers hiking, fishing, wildlife observations, as well as great photo ops for you and your family.

The Graham Creek Nature Preserve

Next is the Graham Creek Nature Preserve which is located at 23030 Wolf Bay Drive, in Foley Alabama.

This beautiful preserve has a whopping 484 pristine acres that includes pitcher plant bogs as well as several different forests.

There are over 6100 acres inside of the park and these trails connect Gulf Shores to Orange Beach.

The USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park

The USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park is the final major attraction along the Alabama Coastal Connection, and is located at 2703 Battleship Parkway, Mobile Alabama.

Its main attractions are the Battleship USS Alabama, the submarine USS Drum, as well as over 25 very rare aircraft and other military equipment.

The Alabama Birding Trail also goes through this park and offers fantastic views of several different bird species native to the area.
